From as far back as I can remember I’ve always wanted to own a hammock. I have happy childhood memories of swinging in my grandmother’s woven cotton rope hammock from Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
A few years ago our family visited a tourist shop that featured a demo hammock hanging from the rafters that I just had to try out. It was so comfortable! Soon I had located an online hammock store and bought a black and gold double camping model made from parachute nylon. I got some heavy duty mounting hardware and drilled holes in the ceiling of our covered back porch and hung it up. Bliss!
The smooth fabric comfortably cradles you in a cocoon while gently swaying back and forth in the fresh air. It’s the perfect getaway to read, relax, nap, write(I typed this on my iPad while suspended in its soft embrace!), or to just sit quietly listening to sounds of the neighborhood.
My hammock is a special spot where I can always escape the constant stress of life and find rest and renewal.
The Bible teaches us that we can also find rest, hope, and peace by calling on and relying on God! He is able to hold us up, give us a safe place to perch, and spend time away from a confusing world filled with fear, anxiety, and noise.
“You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalms 32:7 NIV
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalms 46:1 NIV
“Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” Psalms 62:8 NIV
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”” Psalms 91:1-2 NIV
“Sustain me, my God, according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed. Uphold me, and I will be delivered; I will always have regard for your decrees.” Psalms 119:116-117 NIV
Until next time, may words bless you!
