Fun Fact Friday - Climbing Mt. Hood

Mount Hood, OregonHow’s it going? Great, we hope!

Friday posts are dedicated to sharing fun filled facts about us, our lives, our family - brief details that give you a glimpse into just who runs this little corner of the internet and will hopefully help you get to know us better.

This time we go back to 1998 in history to when we called the PNW home. Chris was a few years younger then, and was persuaded to join a friend’s expedition to climb 11,249-foot Mount Hood in Oregon.

The memorably successful trek to the summit began around 4 am, and included a ride in a vintage snowcat, strapping on boots and crampons, wielding ice axes, clipping in to a climbing rope, rest-stepping through steep snow, avoiding rockfalls and avalanches, and gingerly skirting a dangerous crevasse.

Along the way the group traversed Palmer Glacier, the Hogsback, passed active sulfur vents, and finally ascended through the Pearly Gates.
The peak was conquered, lunch was consumed at the top, and everyone safely glissaded most of the way back down to the shelter of Timberline lodge, to enjoy a crackling fireplace and mugs of steaming cocoa.
